Miami (AFP) – Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill will miss the remainder of the NFL season after suffering “multiple” torn ligaments in Monday’s victory over the New York Jets, the Dolphins said Tuesday.

Super Bowl-winner Hill, one of the NFL’s best wide receivers, was carted off the field at Hard Rock Stadium on Monday after the gruesome-looking injury in the third quarter. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Hill was undergoing knee surgery and would play no further part in the season.

“It’s a major knee procedure, multiple ligaments,” McDaniel told reporters. “Obviously his season’s done. Our focus as a team now is to support him.”

NFL.com reported that Hill suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament as well as other ligament damage in the incident following a tackle from Jets cornerback Malachi Moore. McDaniel, meanwhile, praised the response of Miami’s sideline medical staff in dealing with the injury.

“The medical care was top-flight when we needed it,” McDaniel said. “The major things that you want to avoid in something that serious was avoided.”

Hill, 31, joined the Dolphins in 2022 after spending five years with Kansas City from 2016-2021, where he was part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2020. Known for his blistering speed, Hill was also a successful track athlete, winning gold at the World Junior Championships in 2012 as a member of the USA’s 4x100m relay squad.
