Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis has undergone surgery to repair a detached retina after playing through the injury during the past NBA season, US media reported on Tuesday. The Dallas Morning News and ESPN, both citing unnamed sources, said Davis was expected to be available for the start of training camp before the 2025-26 season gets underway. It will be Davis’s first pre-season with the Mavs.

He arrived in Dallas in a stunning mid-season trade sending Slovenian superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis made a dazzling Dallas debut in February, scoring 26 points with 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocked shots before hobbling out of that game with an adductor strain. The 10-time All-Star missed six weeks, returning to help the Mavs make the play-in tournament in which they were eliminated.

Davis is expected to be a key presence next season with star guard Kyrie Irving poised to miss much of the campaign as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The Mavs will also boast new talent Cooper Flagg, the 18-year-old collegiate standout who was the number one overall selection in last month’s NBA draft.
