New York (AFP) – Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was fined $57,222 by the NFL on Tuesday for spitting on Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott early in last week’s season opener.

Carter, whose fine amounts to one missed game paycheck, was also issued a one-game suspension for his actions only six seconds into last Thursday’s 24-20 home victory over Dallas. But because Carter missed almost the entire game against the Cowboys after being ejected for spitting on Prescott, the National Football League said it will consider his suspension served.

“Because Carter was disqualified before participating in a single play, the suspension is considered to have been served in week one and he will forfeit his game check,” the NFL said in a statement.

“The NFL Players Association has informed the NFL that Carter will not contest the discipline and has waived his right to appeal.” That means Carter will be allowed to play Sunday when the Eagles visit Kansas City in a rematch of last February’s Super Bowl, which Philadelphia won 40-22.

“It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won’t happen again,” Carter said after last week’s game. “I feel bad for just my teammates and the fans out there.”
