Termas de Río Hondo (Argentina) (AFP) – World MotoGP champion Jorge Martin will sit out the Grand Prix of the Americas after failing to recover from injury, having already been forced to miss the opening two races of the season. The 27-year-old Spaniard broke his left hand in a training accident in February, having also fractured his right hand and left foot in winter testing at Sepang. He missed the opening round of the world championship in Thailand and was then ruled out of this weekend’s race in Argentina.

The Aprilia star admitted that he may also miss the fourth round of the world championship in Qatar in April. “I’m having trouble recovering as quickly as I’d like. I’d like to be in Austin (for the US GP on March 30), but I won’t be racing,” Martin said by video link at the Argentina Grand Prix on Thursday. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to be in Qatar (April 13). It’s still early. I’d like to do a test before returning because I’m not feeling very well.”

I’ll be following it (the Argentinian GP) closely this weekend. I’m cheering on Aprilia; I hope they improve a little and get closer to that podium,” added Martin.
