Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George will miss the remainder of the NBA regular season after receiving injections to treat injuries in his groin and knee, the club said on Monday.

George, 34, has not played since scoring seven points in a 30-minute outing against the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 4. It marked the latest in a series of niggling injuries which have hampered George since he joined the Sixers last year on a four-year $212 million contract.

“Following consultations with specialists, as part of his treatment plan, Paul George has received injections in both his left adductor muscle and left knee,” the Sixers announced on Monday. “Following the procedure, George is medically unable to play and will be out for at least six weeks. Further updates on his recovery will be provided as appropriate.”

The gloomy injury bulletin surrounding George is the latest blow to what has been a bitterly disappointing season for the Sixers. Sixers star Joel Embiid, the 2022-2023 NBA Most Valuable Player, was also ruled out of the remainder of the season in February.

The Sixers are currently languishing near the foot of the Eastern Conference with a 23-44 record and are on course to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
