Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Utah Jazz forward Jaren Jackson Jr. will be sidelined at least six weeks with a right knee injury while Finnish star Lauri Markkanen has a sprained wrist, the NBA club said Tuesday. Both frontliners were hurt Monday in the Jazz’s 110-105 home loss to Memphis.
A team statement said Jackson suffered a torn knee ligament and will be reevaluated in six weeks. Jackson, the 2023 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, was injured when he was struck by Grizzlies’ guard Ty Jerome. Jackson played eight seasons for Memphis before being traded to Utah last February. He played only three games for the Jazz before season-ending left knee surgery. Coming into the campaign, Jackson had averaged 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.9 blocked shots, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals a game.
Markkanen hurt his right wrist and is listed as day to day, the club said. He has averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds a game this season for the Jazz (1-3). Utah had already lost center Jusuf Nurkic to a right foot injury before the season began.
