Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani was out of the lineup against the White Sox in Chicago on Friday, a day after he exited a game early with discomfort in his left knee. Ohtani had hit a home run and reached base in all four of his at-bats before he departed in the seventh inning of an 8-6 victory over the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Thursday.
Manager Dave Roberts, whose Dodgers are chasing a third straight World Series title, had called the move precautionary. “He told the trainer that he felt a little something behind his knee, and I just didn’t see any sense in risking it,” Roberts said, adding that after the team traveled to Chicago they would “just kind of see how he comes in.”

It was not immediately clear whether the injury would affect Ohtani’s next pitching start. He’s scheduled to take the mound on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays before the Dodgers have a day off on Thursday.
After a slow start to the season at the plate, Ohtani has 13 home runs for the season. He is 6-2 as a starting pitcher with 73 strikeouts and an earned-run average of 1.06.
