Washington (United States) (AFP) – Oklahoma City big man Chet Holmgren will miss eight to 10 weeks with a knee tendon tear, the NBA team said Friday, the latest injury blow for the 2025 champions.
The Thunder said in a statement that Holmgren experienced discomfort in his right knee on October 25. “After a series of consultations with specialists, the determination was to perform a biological treatment (Friday) to address a small patellar tendon tear,” the team said. “The treatment was successful and Holmgren is expected to make a full recovery and return to play in eight-to-10 weeks.”
The Thunder also announced that guard Cason Wallace underwent a procedure to address the labral tear in his left shoulder and will be reevaluated “prior to the end of the 2026-27 regular season.” Oklahoma City had announced this week that Wallace and forward Jalen Williams would be sidelined indefinitely with injuries requiring surgery.
Williams suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated left ankle in Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Clippers, the same game in which Wallace was hurt. The Thunder started the NBA season 4-0 with solid contributions from both players, suffering their first defeat against Dallas on Wednesday.
Williams has averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.0 steals a game, while Wallace has averaged 6.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.3 assists a game. Holmgren was averaging 12 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.
