Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Seattle Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet will miss the remainder of the NFL postseason after suffering an injury in last weekend’s playoff defeat of the San Francisco 49ers, head coach Mike Macdonald confirmed Monday. Charbonnet, one of Seattle’s most potent offensive weapons, was injured on Saturday during the first half of Seattle’s 41-6 divisional round rout of the 49ers. ESPN reported Charbonnet had suffered torn knee ligaments.

“He’s got a significant knee injury, unfortunately,” Macdonald said on Seattle Sports 710AM radio on Monday. “Breaks your heart. He’s going to need surgery, so he’s got a good long road to come back. Our heart goes out to him, prayers go out to Charbs. We love him, man. This guy is the epitome of what it means to be a Seahawk. Absolute tough as nails, great teammate, great human being, plays his tail off, detail oriented, unselfish. It just hurts, man, it hurts that it’s going on, but he’s going to be back stronger than ever, and the guys are going to pick him up.”

The Seahawks will host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in the NFC championship game, with the winner booking a place in next month’s Super Bowl. Charbonnet, 25, has been at the heart of the Seattle renaissance this season, helping the team win the NFC West and clinch home advantage through the playoffs after rushing for 730 yards and 12 touchdowns from 184 carries during the regular season.
