Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) (AFP) – US ski star Mikaela Shiffrin clocked the second-fastest time behind Swiss Camille Rast in the first run of the World Cup slalom in Kranjska Gora on Sunday. Overall World Cup and slalom leader Shiffrin was just 0.10 seconds behind Rast, who led the way a day after claiming victory in the giant slalom in the Slovenian resort.

Reigning slalom world champion Rast looks to have overcome the hip problems that had plagued her since last season, just over a month before the Winter Olympics get underway in Milan-Cortina. The 26-year-old Rast has reached the podium in her last four World Cup starts. Meanwhile, Shiffrin is looking to extend her slalom streak, having won all five races in the discipline this season, in addition to last year’s season-ender.
