Washington (United States) (AFP) – Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer hopes cornerback Joey Porter Jr. can suit up for the Cowboys’ NFL clash with Houston on Sunday, days after arriving in a trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers finally settled their contentious contract dispute with Porter—who has yet to play this season—by shipping him to the Cowboys in exchange for two future draft picks.
Schottenheimer told reporters on Thursday that the newly arrived Porter—who sat out all of training camp and the pre-season after reporting he had aggravated a back injury—”moved around good” in a “positive” first practice with his new team. News of the trade had surfaced Wednesday night. The deal ends a months-long standoff between Porter and the Steelers over a contract extension for the 2023 second-round draft pick, who was inactive for the first three games of the season.
