Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) – Cory Hilliard, USA Swimming’s chief financial officer, was arrested on Monday in Colorado on charges of theft, embezzlement, and official misconduct during his time as a University of Colorado employee. The Boulder County district attorney’s office announced the charges in a news release, saying they will move forward with prosecution after an internal audit by the school and an investigation by university police.
The charges stem from last July when Hilliard was administrator of the university’s Nike Elite program, and officials notified the internal audit department about concerns regarding Hilliard. In his role, Hilliard was responsible for managing employee product benefit allocations from the Nike Elite program. Between 2021 and 2025, Hilliard misappropriated funds for his personal use, with an investigation revealing that he took $9,510 from the university, according to the release.
Hilliard was hired by US Swimming last December. In a statement to Swimming World magazine, US Swimming said the organization became aware of the arrest on Monday morning and placed Hilliard on leave while an investigation is conducted by the US sport governing body.
