New York (AFP) – New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson said Friday no explanation has been found for a neurological medical emergency that hospitalized him, but medical tests have been reassuring. The 24-year-old rusher, who sparked Ohio State’s 2024 US college championship run, missed New England’s NFL victory over Miami last Sunday. He had practiced twice last week before being sidelined October 29 due to what was called an illness.
“Recently, I experienced an unexpected and unusual medical emergency involving a series of unexplained neurological symptoms that required hospitalization for several days,” Henderson wrote in a statement posted on social media. “During that time, I underwent extensive medical testing and evaluation. While the results of my comprehensive medical testing have come back positive and reassuring, the cause of this remains unknown and unexplainable.”
Henderson will remain sidelined while he seeks more answers to his situation. “I will continue working closely with specialists and physical therapists to focus on my recovery, as these symptoms have affected my strength, coordination, and some of my physical functions,” Henderson wrote. “I am committed to doing everything necessary to return to full health. My health and long-term well-being remain my foremost priorities.”
In six games this year, Henderson has rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown and caught five passes for 45 yards. As an NFL rookie last season, he ran for 911 yards and nine touchdowns, caught 35 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown, and handled some kick return duties.
