Washington (United States) (AFP) – Baltimore completed a trade for 11-year NFL veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett on Friday, hours after the Ravens were routed by Jacksonville while using their third-string signal caller due to injuries. The Ravens made the deal for Brissett after losing star quarterback Lamar Jackson to a right thumb injury that will require surgery and backup Tyler Huntley for the season with a toe injury.
Jackson’s injury, which came on his first play back following an ankle injury, is “potentially” season-ending, Ravens coach Jesse Minter said. Rookie Joe Fagnano threw for only 60 yards in Baltimore’s 33-10 home loss Thursday to the Jaguars, which dropped the Ravens to 4-5 on the season.
The club announced on social media the deal for Brissett, reportedly for a 2027 NFL Draft fourth-round pick and a 2028 seventh-rounder while also obtaining a 2027 fifth-round selection and money. Brissett, 33, is expected to make his 74th career start and first for the Ravens when they return to the field on November 16 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“I feel like (Brissett) can come in and help us,” Ravens running back Derrick Henry said. “We’ll be excited to have him and we’ll see where it goes.” The Ravens have lost four games in a row with three different starting quarterbacks and been kept below 14 points in four consecutive games for the first time in club history.
Brissett, a rookie backup to New England’s Tom Brady in the Patriots’ 2017 Super Bowl victory over Atlanta, will play for his seventh different NFL squad. He started Arizona’s first eight games this season before being dropped behind Gardner Minshew and rookie Carson Beck, setting the stage for his departure from the Cardinals (3-5).
